This is from their literature so that people can know about this great organization and why it is imperative that we help them.
RESPONSE of Suffolk County, Inc. is a community-based not-for-profit agency
that provides crisis intervention and suicide prevention programs and services to the
community in order to reduce the risk of behavior that could lead to self-injury, suicide,
or harm to others. Our 24-hour hotline receives over 20,000 calls each year and our
support line program provides over 6,000 telephone “visits” to individuals who are
homebound or have limited social support due to physical disability or mental illness.
Our online crisis counseling program, Hear2Help, targets teens and young adults who
feel more comfortable reaching out online than on the phone. In our adolescent suicide
prevention program, educators reach out to middle and high school students throughout
Suffolk County to educate and heighten awareness about suicide risk and resources
available.
RESPONSE also functions as a centralized point for after-hours crisis and emergency
calls for the Probation Department, Suffolk County’s Clinic Treatment Programs, Town
Youth Bureau’s, the Long Island Railroad, Victim’s Services agencies, as well as many
mental health agencies and private therapists. We are the area network center for the
National Suicide Prevention Lifeline and we are accredited by the American Association
of Suicidology.
Please know that any contributions to RESPONSE will go directly to support our crisis
intervention and suicide prevention programs and will be instrumental in helping us
further our mission of adolescent suicide prevention. Thank you for your anticipated
support.
